It’s no news that your SIM card and your phone is where you store your contact’s phone numbers. The big problem is, you may lose your SIM and/or your phone and thereby lose most if not all of your contact details. The best way to save yourself from this problem is to backup mobile phone contacts. There are various ways to do this. In this post, I would show you how to easily backup mobile contact numbers.

 
You will be glad to know that MTN Nigeria has provided a means whereby you can backup mobile contact numbers. If you are an MTN subscriber like me, read ahead and safely backup your contact numbers.

 

What is MTN Backup?

backup-contactsMTN Backup is a service that provides MTN subscribers a simple way to keep phone and SIM contacts safe on a secure MTN online account. It enables you save both the contacts on your SIM, and those on your handset. You can backup up to 200 contacts on your SIM and up to 5000 contacts on your mobile phone. This means that, if anything happens to your phone or SIM, you can simply restore your data to your new mobile phone or SIM.

 

How do I Get Started?

To use MTN Backup, you will need the new MTN Backup SIM. This is a new SIM you can get from MTN offices nationwide for just 150 naira. You will also need a compatible, data-enabled mobile phone within MTN data coverage. No need to worry, MTN Backup supports over 400 compatible mobile phones.

How To Register for MTN Backup

If you are using the new Backup SIM and your phone is compatible, go to “MTN Services” on your mobile phone, click on it and you will see “MTN SIM Plus” and “MTN Backup”. Click on “MTN Backup” and then click on “Backup SIM Contacts”.  You would be asked if you want to sychronize (i.e. update) your SIM phone book now?. Click on OK. Wait for a while for your SIM contacts to be backed up. After which you will receive a welcome message from MTN Backup containing your MTN backup web address, your login (your mobile number e.g. 2348012345678) and your password.

Please note: MTN Backup helps you to save your SIM contacts on MTN central store and to retrieve them if you lose your SIM or change your SIM.

 

How much does MTN Backup cost?

Your first backup session costs 100 naira while subsequent backup sessions cost 50 naira. These costs apply regardless of the number of contacts backed up.

1. Globacom Backup

To easily backup your Globacom SIM contacts, please go to Globacom’s Unified Mobile Directory to sign up for a Backup account. You would need to fill in your Glo number and the verification code. After which you should click on the ‘SMS code’ button. A code will be sent to your mobile phone. Put the code where it is needed and you your back up account would be created for you.

 
2. Mobical
