Backup WordPress Blog on Google Drive or DropBox

1. Use WP Google Drive WordPress Plugin

This plugin is used to make backups of your WordPress files and Mysql DB with Google Drive. Google Drive for WordPress is a plugin that provides backup capabilities for WordPress. Backups are ‘zip’ archives created locally and uploaded to a folder of your choosing on Google Drive.

The plugin requires at least WordPress 3.1 and is installed like any other plugin. Download and Upload the plugin to the ‘/wp-contents/plugins/’ folder. Activate the plugin from the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress. Configure the plugin by following the instructions on the ‘Google Drive for WordPress’ settings page. OR you could just install it directly from your plugins area in your WordPress admin area.

2. Use UpdraftPlus

This plugin simplifies backups (and restoration). Backup into the cloud (Amazon S3 (or compatible), Dropbox, Google Drive, Rackspace Cloud, DreamObjects, FTP, SFTP, SCP, WebDAV and email) and restore with a single click. Backups of files and database can have separate schedules.

UpdraftPlus is the highest-ranking backup plugin (ranks in the top 50 out of 28,000 WordPress plugins for quality on rankwp dot com – last checked 8th January 2014). I use this plugin for this blog. It’s been so helpful.

The plugin requires at least WordPress 3.2. To install, go to the plugins menu for your WordPress blog, and choose “Add New”. Search for “updraftplus”, and then click “Install now”. Install and activate it. After which you need to enter your preferred setting. You can also choose how often you want your WordPress blog to be backed up.
